Super Power

26 March 2011 8.30 PM marks Earth Hour.

Some people plan to stay home to catch an extra hour of sleep.

Some plan to go for a candle light dinner at hotels.

Some plan to congregate and share the usage of energy in small groups.

Some people plan to take an hour's walk in the dark and then party hard at concerts organized by big corporations using more energy than they had saved during that hour.

For me, I'd like to sit out in the humble garden of mine, eating 'gua chee', listening to crickets trying to out sing each other, catching a glimpse of the moon if direction permits, enjoy the occasional breeze that comes my way and praying silently for the victims of the recent catastrophes.

My heart goes out to those in New Zealand, China and Japan.

There was once a town filled with neatly laid colourful rooftops,

But it is now a mess of brown.

There was once a town filled with bright smiley faces,
But now it has faces of sullenness and glum.

I wish I have super powers.

I will be able to stop the colourful roofs and smiley faces from disappearing.

I wish I have super powers.

I will be able to slow down the deterioration of Mother Earth and not feel so helpless.

But with super powers come great responsibilities.

Will I be able to handle such responsibilities?
Will I be able to use my powers for good and not for personal gains?
Will I be able to withstand greed and corruption?

Will I be able to use my super powers without any favoritism?
Who do I save first?
What do I save first?
Will I be able to handle any situation without having to make any sacrifice?

With super powers come great responsibilities.

Maybe that's why superman doesn't exist.
